By Will Bonnette, President
As we note the one-year anniversary of COVID-19’s wide scale impacts first being felt in the United States, we also mark Prestige Community Resources’ response with programming, services, and this new website helping DC thrive amid the new normal.
No one expected the havoc COVID-19 would unleash on the world, but perhaps we could have expected that some of the most inequitably resourced areas would take the hardest hit. This includes our own home of Southeast D.C., where Black residents continue to face higher barriers to COVID relief and far increased mortality. Residents can register to be vaccinated here.
With the stakes set so high, PCR is looking beyond our daily work to ensure we are connecting and sharing this journey with the wider world, and helping DC thrive amid the new normal. Our new website serves as a one-stop resource for information about how PCR is working to help close the gaps further illuminated by the pandemic.
A few key areas I hope you will explore:
- Our services: We offer a range of support programs as complex as our new transitional respite housing facility and as simple — and often overlooked — as cell phone access. Be sure to note our weekly Wednesday food and supply distribution schedule at our headquarters!
- In addition to our ongoing new Podcast, be on the lookout for more about our currently in-production documentary project, Isolated Hope: Navigating the New Normal.
- Get involved! We would love to hear from you about how you can support our mission to empower DC’s underserved communities.
This increased focus on services and content production is made possible through our invaluable partnerships with the Capital Area Food Bank, DC Department of Behavioral Health, the Health Resources and Services Administration, Amerigroup RealSolutions and other generous sponsors. A complete list is available on our main page.
We will be regularly updating the website with more information as our programming expands and we continue navigating this New Normal together. Thank you for your support!
